Our story
From a $5 biryani to a dream called Moving Masala.
Every great journey begins with a small idea. Ours began with a simple question: what if we could serve delicious, authentic Indian food at a price everyone could afford?

The journey
How a student's idea became a restaurant
- 01
A student far from home
I came to the United States from Andhra Pradesh, India, to pursue my master's degree. Like many international students, I faced the challenges of living far from home and missed the comforting flavors of Indian food.
- 02
The $5 biryani
Many students wanted a good Indian meal, but eating out regularly was expensive. So I started sharing fresh, flavorful chicken biryani for just $5. People loved it, told their friends, and spread the word on social media.
- 03
Building it for real
We experimented with a food truck, explored different opportunities, and worked through approvals and inspections. There were setbacks, long days and unexpected expenses, but our passion for serving great food never changed.
- 04
Moving Masala, Norwalk
With the support of our team and Chef Bharat Keswani, that dream became Moving Masala, an Indian takeout kitchen in Norwalk, Connecticut.
That overwhelming love and support gave me the confidence to dream bigger.

What we believe
Food that brings people together
Our goal is simple: bring the bold, comforting flavors of India to everyone. We want Indian customers to experience a taste of home, while introducing our American friends and neighbors to the incredible flavors and traditions of Indian cooking.
Delicious food should bring people together, regardless of where they come from.
A note from Satya
More than just a restaurant
For us, Moving Masala is more than a food business. It's the story of an international student's dream, a community that believed in it, and a team determined to make something meaningful. Every order, every returning customer, every kind review and every recommendation reminds us why we started.
We may have begun with a $5 biryani, but our vision has always been bigger: to build a food brand that connects cultures, creates memories, and makes people feel at home through food. We're still at the beginning of our journey, and we're grateful to everyone who's becoming part of it.
From our kitchen to your table, thank you for being part of the Moving Masala story.
With love and gratitude,Satya & The Moving Masala Team
Authentic flavors. Real passion.
